High Level Network Design Considerations

In today’s converged network environments, all involved network technologies and systems need a much higher level of interactive collaborations between them. Same entails for a very comprehensive, expert and a holistic approach to network design and conception. Individual logical network segments like transmission, core network, intended services and applications must be approached in an integrated way for effective outcome.
A high Level Network Architecture must include:
  • Detailed project plan
  • Clear and comprehensive picture of network topology and traffic and capacity patterns
  • End-to-end IP network modeling and design
  • Network management considerations
  • High-level network design including overall topology, network diagrams depicting major equipment layout and layer 1 connections, and multi-vendor integration including project recommendations.
  • Detail Network Design
Detail Network Design must include:
  • Engineering Design encompassing:
    • Equipment layout and Layer 1 connections
    • Detailed configuration information
    • Naming conventions (site names, LSPs, circuits)
    • IP addressing for all regional routes
    • Layer 2 detailed design
    • Layer 3 detailed design
  • Node configuration text files (running configurations)
  • System installation requirements
  • System integration requirements
  • Detailed equipment lists and naming conventions
  • Detailed Network Management System (NMS) information
  • Protocol lists and their application to the design
  • Progress reports and project documentation
